Civitan John Harrison Parker, 77


John Harrison Parker Jr. passed away peacefully at the North Carolina State Veterans Home Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017.

John was born in Kannapolis on Jan. 10, 1940, to John Harrison Parker Sr. and Vera Belle Davis. A 1958 graduate of A.L. Brown High School, John was a veteran with over 22 years of service. After retirement from the Air Force, he and his nephew Gray Barker, formed the Southern Marine Boat dealership in Salisbury. He was a past member of Keller Masonic Lodge 657 and the Rowan County Shrine Club. He was an active member of the Salisbury NC Civitan Club and was presented the NC District West Distinguished Civitan of the Year Award for 2016-2017.

John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jane Schwarz Parker; his daughter, Catherine P. Boykin (John) of Oak Island; two grandsons, Parker James McKeithan and Anthony Gray McKeithan of Salisbury; and two sisters, Beatrice Caldwell of Gastonia and Betty Overcash of Concord.

Visitation & Service: The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2017 at Summersett Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at Summersett Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Eric Faust. The Salisbury NC Civitan Club will sit as a group. Burial at a later date will be at the U.S. National Cemetery.
